Has Apple learnt their lesson? We have

With the alleged recent gaff by an Apple employee that resulted in an iPhone 4G/HD prototype being left in a bar only to end up in the hands of the Gizmodo tech blog, you would think that Apple would have finally learnt their lesson & included a way for us to attach a lanyard or bungee cord

As many of you know, I am often advocating that Apple who is one of the few phone manufacturers that don’t have any way to secure your valuable investment to your person, should be adding a small hole like most phone companies so that we can attach lanyards etc to the iPhone

Maybe if this was possible their prototype may not have gone walkies

I have always had a bungee cord attached to my iPhones case, which I picked up in a tech store in Akihabara Japan. It’s a very neat coiled cord that doesn’t tangle allows the phone to reach my ear yet if dropped doesn’t reach the ground. I have been extremely thankful for the amount of times this simple cheap device has saved me from disaster. But I would rather not have to have a case in order to attach it.

And as it says in the wishlist part of this site “seriously, what’s a Japanese mobile without dangly stuff & hand straps?! Some Japanese people have half of their life & Disney Tokyo hanging from their mobiles”

I’ve even gone so far as in the past to invent a method for securing your iPhone. You may remember my past post on the Straptab idea which was rightly pointed out by a few inventors websites as crediting me as being the original creator only to have Japanese company Strapya, produce a similar device without any acknowledgement royalties

So having dwelled more upon the idea, I have yet again invented an even more improved method of securing the iPhone.

Introducing the iEyelet

The basic concept of the iEyelet is to design a miniture eyelet with a thread size that exactly matches the screw diameter on the bottom of the iPhone so as to replace the original screw & to have a thin enough yet strong profile to still allow the standard dock cord to be connected

What makes the iEyelet novel & unique?

  • It allows you to attach a Lanyard / Strap / Bungee to secure your iPhone without having to drill holes in your iPhone, thus not voiding your warranty
  • It decreases the bulk & shape of your iPhone as compared to an adhesive tab (see Straptab)
  • It will allow you to still attach the standard dock cord (assuming the design is made to the right size specifications & the iEyelet is turned to the side) The eyelet/ring part of the design has a reduced width thickness to allow more space for the dock cord
  • It will still work with many iPhone case designs
  • As the cord will attach to the bottom of the phone, when the iPhone is right side up in use or taking a call it will hang comfortable from the bottom
  • a very small thin flange at the base of the eye will provide stability from wobbling
  • low production, packaging & retail costs
  • Possible to fit 2 iEyelets (left & right of the dock) to increase strength or to distribute the weight evenly around a neck for example
  • Could be made in silver or anodized black or white to match the iPhone

It will also be possible to design a range of suitable & fashionable cords, straps & bungees to match & value add

As a designer/Artist in a small town on the east coast of Australia that is desperately looking for more work, I don’t have the funds to patent or make & market my ideas. So I ask of all iPhography.com readers to PLEASE REBLOG THIS POST. That way hopefully it will become glaringly obvious that I was the original creator of this idea.

If your a company that will be able to produce this simple but unique idea for securing iPhones from going missing in public bars & getting the owner fired for careless loss of trade secrets. Then I would love to hear from you & to work further on the concept
