Happy New Year!
あけましておめでとうございます (in japanese if your computer cant display those characters)
As you may have noticed iPhography HQ has been on holidays for a bit more than a month. It’s been 4 years since the last one so we thought we would make it a big one. But true to style we captured the whole thing on our iPhones (might even post some of the good ones).
iPhography passed it’s Second birthday about 2 months ago & things look like they will be steam rolling ahead for this year. You know that iPhography is growing when even your technophobe mother is contemplating an iPhone purchase.
So when will the rumor mill start rolling on the iPhone 5? Well here are some of the things that people are starting to talk about.
- First one is obvious - A redesign to fix any antenna issues that may or may not be present in the current iPhone 4 form factor
- RFID chip - To allow for “Near Field” payments by simply swiping the phone past a terminal to buy your convenience store items, buy a train ticket or even to open a gate etc.
- There is also talk that the RFID feature could enable your iPhone to activate any mac computer and download all of your settings from the Apple cloud to effectively turn it into your own computer. This would mean that a company or home could have several or several thousand “slave computers” that would allow you to work from any room or any cubicle without having to carry around computers or files
- The european union is making the micro USB the standard charger for all mobiles. Will this affect Apples design for the dock cord / port or will they just simply make the other end micro instead of its normal USB size
- Some starting chatter that the image sensor for the camera may be boosted to 8 megapixels. But unless Apple gives us a decent amount of storage space, our iPhones are going to fill up fast
- My personal thoughts are that the back glass panel will be replaced with either a carbon fiber shell or using the new liquid metal technologies that they have licensed for a stronger cast rather than machined body. CNC machining solid backs on a future iPhone scale would be out of the question I think
- I STILL WANT A HOLE TO ATTACH A STRAP OR LANYARD, then I dont have to worry about dropping it or ending up in the ocean on my jetty walks. Yes I can drill a hole & attach one to an external case but it would be good to enjoy the iPhone as it was designed to be enjoyed. almost every camera & phone has a strap hole except iPhone
- Crazy rumour - iPhone 5 will include a Pico projector. As awesome as this sounds (you can project images onto a near by surface so as to gain a larger sharable image). Unless Apple has invented some magic battery technology, I doubt they will include this
- 4G?? maybe but I would settle for decent 3G coverage and reception first. To tell the truth 3G is so bad in Australia & battery draining that I have my iPhone switched to 2G (see settings - general - network) almost all of the time
- Wish….. A dedicated button for the camera [Edit - iOS 5 has both the volume button on the iPhone & headphone cord acting as the shutter button)
We will be going through all of your submissions that you sent in over the holidays and be bringing your the best of iPhography as always
Thanks for your continued support & don’t forget, if any of your friends or family are new to iPhography after this holiday season, then send them over here to iPhography.com to check out all of our past stories in the archive
