App Review - ShakeItPhoto 1.1

Many iPhographers have been having fun with the numerous apps out there that replicate the Polaroid look (Fauxlaroids). But we are happy to say that not only have we found an app that replicates the look of polaroids but also the feel. As the ShakeItPhoto name would suggest, after you capture your iPhograph or you select one from your camera roll (we suggest camera roll not library as you will get a higher resolution) its then spits it out on your screen like a polaroid complete with clicking & whirring noises that a Polaroid would make. You then proceed to shake it as so many of us have come accustomed to for developing Polaroids (on a side note I learnt a long time a go that shaking a polaroid doesn’t in fact do much except make us feel like we are somehow in control of the developing process) It looks remarkably real as it develops & I’m happy to say the results are the most polaroid like of any app

Your first greeted with the take photo page, which after a second I realised you could press cancel to select from library. We would like the cancel button to be renamed library & jump straight to your library so as to have only 2 options.

The dreaded retake screen. As you know we hate this with a passion & have warned all app makers from using it. If we don’t want a pic, it’s easy enough to delete it later from the camera roll rather than slowing us down each time we take an iPhograph. Beside a Polaroid doesn’t have the option of retake so neither should this app

Click whirrrr. It’s now developing as you shake it. it looks remarkably like a real undeveloped Polaroid

Ok it’s slowly getting there

Almost

& Done! The finished polaroid (sorry my first shot was almost monochrome) the border even has the ridged textured feel of a polaroid. We would like to see a setting that can turn on or off smudge marks & fingerprints

The bellow shots are a bit sucky but I was in a rush. They will give you a bit of an idea & hopefully encourage you to experiment with this app yourself

Our recommendations for use are to use your normal camera app, it’s quicker & you can fire off more shots. Then go to your camera roll with the shakeitphoto app & pick the best to develop them. Use the library only as a last resort because as mentioned before you will get lower resolution images (the library only backs up small versions, it’s not the apps fault). Also Go for nice vivid colour scenes as these come out great.

All in all the best Polaroid like app out their. iPhography.com easily gives it a highly recommended! Don’t think twice about buying it if your even remotely serious about iPhography

You can find the Official ShakeItPhoto gallery at photoshakedown.com

All they need to do is fix a few of the things mentioned & we feel that it will be next to impossible for anyone to improve upon it & thus cornering the Fauxlaroid market. Oh & your App icon is a bit on the ugly side, needs a big of a redesign. UPDATE: The App maker has just contacted us & you can see a preview of the updated logo on their twitter page, Much better!
