July 2009s Featured iPhographer - Josh Mobley

We recently came across musician turned part time iPhographer Josh Mobley. We loved what he was achieving with some of his iPhography & so asked him to join us as our featured iPhographer for July

iPhography.com: What got you into iPhography?
Josh: It was a fluke actually. A dj at my old recording studio gave me a camera as a gift and I just started taking pictures… Of everything. I finally got an iPhone this June and was floored at all the apps for the camera. I was like, I’m only taking pictures with this for the next year and see what happens.

iPhography.com: What is it that you are trying to achieve with your iPhography?
Josh: To be creative outside of music. I like the idea of working in a medium that is so imperfect and limited, yet extremely powerful. We have great cameras here but the idea of shooting with a low res camera with very powerful photo fx is exciting. You take a shot, it either works or it doesn’t. You don’t need fuss about it because the camera is low res to begin with

iPhography.com: I noticed that many of your shots are quite sharp & feature low noise. Do you use desktop apps & if so, can you tell us a bit about your process?
Josh: I stand very still ;) No desktop apps with these except iPhoto. I think I de-noised one of them. I really only use iPhone apps like Camerabag, Photogene, Photofx (my favourite) and 101filters. I guess I only really take pictures during the day with good light and most importantly, when I see something that’s interesting, I take at least two pictures of it and make use of the touch to focus/white balance thing. For me, as long as I have decent light, I can often get a sharp picture with low noise

iPhography.com: There has been a few changes with the latest iPhone 3GS, but what would you wish for in a future iPhone?
Josh: FRONT FACING CAMERA

iPhography.com: What do you like most & least about the iPhone you are using & what model do you have?
Josh: The iPhone 3GS 32GB. I like the camera the most. The least? AT&T

iPhography.com: What do you see in the future of the iPhography movement?
Josh: Excellent question. If I had to guess, I would say that that the iPhone is the new Holga and Lomo. It allows the average person to be wildly expressive with the click of a button. With the inclusion of video and things like Twitter, we are becoming our own broadcast networks. Instead of spewing news, we are generating art and transmitting it en mass to the world

iPhography.com: Is there anything you would like to tell our readers?
Josh: I’m actually a full time composer for TV in real life. You can check me out at www.joshmobley.com

Thanks for sharing with us Josh & we are happy to pass on the plug
