What MMS means to iPhographers

With the introduction of MMS to the iPhone you could be quickly forgiven for thinking that this is a real win for iPhographers & their ability to send their iPhographs to anyone. But I don’t think that’s the case.

The SMS App was updated  in the iPhone 3.0 OS to include MMS (Multi Media Service) which allows you to send voice messages & photo’s etc. This feature is carrier dependent so check with your phone company if they will support it.

Yes it’s great to give us options, but I don’t think it’s good for us in the long run & it’s just another money grab by greedy Telco’s. Depending on your network or country of origin it could cost anything from 25c to $1 to send an MMS. SO DON’T!

There is already a great way to send iPhographs & yes even multiples of iPhographs (in the new OS), it’s called……EMAIL, & it’s FREE!! because most of you have already had some net time included with your iPhone plans & if the person you are sending it to has MMS capability on their mobile, chances are they can also check their email & boo hoo if they have to wait an hour to get to their work or home computer to check their email.

Not only does using MMS restrict your options but this also encourages Telco’s to not give you a decent amount of downloads for your net bundle because it’s far more profitable for them to charge you for micro small packets of MMS

This is the exact same thing that telco’s especially in Australia (Not in wonderful Japan where emails have only cost about 2 yen to send for a long time) have been doing with TXT, Text or SMS depending on what you call it. For a long long time Aussie mobiles have been capable of sending email, but when you rang up the phone companies they would give you the run around saying that it was very complicated & difficult or would just plain lie & tell you it wasn’t possible. Why? Because they were making 25c for 160 characters when an average sized email of 4kb even at stupidly expensive download rates would only have cost 4c or so.

The other bonus of using email is that it’s much easier for people to save & archive images sent to you. Many people would have absolutely no idea of how to get an MMS off their mobile.

I guarantee that if I get an MMS from you it will most likely get deleted

So if you would like to see progress & don’t wish to be getting sucked dry on your mobile bill, then PLEASE…. PLEASE…. PLEASE for the future of iPhography, don’t use MMS

PS. Reblog, link to or just tell people about this post & help iPhographers not get caught up in this scam
