Nano the next step towards the future of everything

Yes we are at iPhography HQ going to be geeks and use this as a watch. lets hope that in the future Apple offers many different “watch faces” to download, although the standard one looks ok.

Is this inadvertently a step towards the future that maybe even Apple hasn’t realised? Or maybe they do & are not letting on…

Lets face it ever since the early days of sci-fi people have been dreaming of “TV/Movie” wristwatch phones. Surely it wont be too long before Apple adds wifi & a front facing camera to the nano with maybe a bluetooth headset (I think it will be too small for a good mic & speaker & also public privacy).

My guess is all they are waiting for is

  1. Train us (mums and dads & the techno fearful) in the use of the nano
  2. Observe how many people would be willing to wear it
  3. Establish Facetime as the worldwide standard for video calling, which they have started not only with their iPod & iPhone but also by realeasing it as an open standard and it wont be long before its on mac as well
  4. Allowing a few more years for massive widespread wi-fi coverage
  5. Increased battery performance from future technologies such as rechargeable air lithium batteries

As I have said before If Apple were to buy a company like Fon & build their technology into it’s Airport base stations, then a global wi-fi network (perhaps even a mesh network via iOS devices) would relegate Telco’s to providing back haul from the wi-fi stations.

I see this new ‘AppleNet / iMesh / AppleMesh / Air Net / Air Mesh’ (Or Mobile ME as in Mobile MEsh) as operating in 2 modes

  1. P2P or Mobile Mesh mode where you would be able to access anyone or any site on the mesh for free.
  2. Net mode where you need to connect to the regular (non-air) based internet of which your traffic would have to be paid as it would go through the regular cables and pipes internets. Apple may negotiate this with telco’s and charge a monthly or yearly fee as part of MobileMe that the telco’s get a cut of like record companies with itunes

This MobileMesh mode may just be Apples biggest revolution. By passing the Telco’s & phone networks that everyone including them hate. Creating the worlds second internet, one with out wires, with out 2 year contracts & without having to deal with infuriatingly bad service from Indian Call Centers

There is also 3 other key ingredients that can help facilitate this happening

  1. The massive 1 billion dollar data center (500 000 square foot) that Apple has just built to manage the transfer to the MobileMEsh
  2. Over 40 billion in cash reserves goes a long way to purchasing backhaul through the wired net & it also helps with…..
  3. Continued expansion of Apple stores in major populated areas as strategic locations for putting wi-fi base stations everywhere possible & acting as anchors for the MobileMesh to connect to the wired net. Remember When Ray Kroc creator of McDonalds was asked what business he was in, everyone said making burgers & he replied that he was in the real estate business, buying land on the corners of the best locations in the world & placing money making machines to pay for it. Along with the Vatican church franchise (and maybe Starbucks) they are one of the biggest land holders in the world. The same could be said for Apple. We may see their business as selling drop dead gorgeously designed pieces of technology but maybe their real business is knowingly or unknowingly to become the worlds biggest untethered network

Can you imagine a more fitting way for Steve to hang up his hat?. The wired internet will someday come to a close in the future. But Steve could not only be one of the fathers of the personal computing revolution but also be remember through history as being the one who created the MobileMEsh.

I don’t think Apple investors will need to worry about the worlds most important CEO stepping down after pulling off an achievement like that

Communication through air will never come to an end & will be a lasting legacy for Steve & Apple of Mammoth proportions

& I for 1 can’t wait for the day to come. Remember, you heard it here first
