Readers Question - Getting a grip

Q:Thanks for the info. I am snapping away - My eyes suffer from the harsh sunlight here and I often don’t notice my fingers in the way. What is the ideal way to hold an iPhone whilst taking pics stop those finger shadows?

And I really hope the lanyard will be implemented.

Thanks
 Sunny Greece

A: Your welcome Sunny

Firstly - Don’t use 2 hands, maybe this is the golden rule for SLR’s but not an iPhone. It also ‘warns’ your subject that you are taking an iPhograph & you loose the natural pose you may have wanted

Secondly - I cup the iPhone. Bottom resting in top of palm, thumb ready to tap button & 2 middle fingers behind, pinky resting on one side, pointer resting on the other
I’ll include 2 photo’s for you demonstrating on an ipod

I find this technique gives me the widest range of movement & stability. But some peoples thumbs might not be long enough or agile enough for this technique

Also with my old iPhone 3GS I had a spiral stretch strap attached to my belt loops and the other end had a thin cord attached to the case (the black cord like you seewith a mobile charm or dangle) and a round keyring hanging about 3cm away, which I could slip my pinky finger through so if I dropped my phone whilst holding at a funny angle it would just hang from my pinky

Yes for sure your right, I really don’t see why 2 small holes cant be added for a lanyard, it is an expensive piece of kit, but gorgeous enough that many don’t want to have to put it in a case
